Cheerful weather for a wedding

waiting for the bride and groom

waiting for the bride and groom

This was today, waiting for a secret wedding to happen – they weren’t a runaway couple but like me (in fact the bride is my cousin) they both have a large family and the idea of a ceremony creaking at the sides with relatives was not the done thing for them. My OH and I had already trodden the snappy empty wedding with no-one there so they asked me to take the photos. All was good apart from a panic earlier when they hadn’t arrived and I thought maybe the wedding destination was not where I was – curses for having to eliminate all text traces. Their children were bridesmaids and page boy and knew nothing this morning until they were told they weren’t going to school and then found themselves dressed up and out for the day. So it was a beautiful day, and the newly weds are now in a foreign country and it was incredibly cheerful weather for a wedding.

Their wedding will hopefully be nothing like the wedding in the book by Julia Strachey, Cheerful Weather for the Wedding, which in a quote from The Bookseller will give you an idea ‘As delightful and perceptive today as it no doubt was seventy years ago: on her wedding day a girl knows she is about to make a serious mistake’ . I love the books from Persephone, they come beautifully wrapped and have beautiful fly covers and a dove grey exterior and it appeals to me. I love this book and will often be found giving it as a gift with a slight tongue in cheek to my most best of friends.

I think that’s what I loved so much about my request here to hear your loves/ inspirations. I loved it that our paths crossed and we shared some of the same literary heritage – maybe it’s to do with being makers?

So the winners have been chosen, of course I loved all the answers and really really hope to see some of these ideas made up into real things – that would be something! Now the pattern has been sent, it is also out there for everyone else as a Ravelry Download or via my etsy shop or even on here – all info on my design page

Onwards, there is another pattern brewing…

What a lovely wedding story! And how exciting for the children too. Perfect day for it.

I love Persephone too – have you read the volume of poetry ‘It’s hard to be hip over thirty’ – I highly recommend it.

    And thank you again x

I love that book – that’s my favourite gift for friends who are approaching 30! Have you ever been to their shop, it is so wonderful and has a cute dog, flowers in a vase and piles of books being packaged up and sent off to destinations. Love it
