IKnit, mitten kits and sock blockers
I had a fantastic time at Iknit with the SQueen, Kiknits and the rest of the Outcasts.

lift waiting
We had a really early start in a car laden down with yarn, I was also carrying the 90 letters that the Outcasts had been putting together for the Poetry Society, plus samples (knit ones) and a big bag of bananas – I think I thought the bananas were a good idea and it took the entire two days to eat them, mind you if it’d been a bag of chocolate that may have disappeared quicker.
After we’d recovered form the shock and laughter at driving through rush hour with a yarn filled car en route to who knew exactly where, we did manage to get there, disembark, create the stand and manage to look like we knew what we were doing ~ we’d all managed to remember our Fluevogs, both fake and real. There are lovely pictures of the stand over here.

outcasts
The Outcasts were working on two projects at the same time, smoothie hat making for innocent and the poem for the Poetry Society – they are knitty genius’.
We also had celebrity visitors.
Firstly the lovely Suzie, of the Wool Sanctuary – she was the knitting expert roped in to help Kirstie Allsopp in her Homemade Home Series. She was so very lovely and wish that she lived nearer and be an outcast too or maybe the Outcasts will be visiting Suzie???
I couldn’t resist but take a picture of her doing a fake interview with my knitted microphone, in fact Kirstie Allsopp herself retweeted my very tweet and picture. Good times!

Outcast Interview
We also had the lovely Ysolda and Sarah visiting us over the two days, I took the photo below on Day 1 as their clothes were unbeknowingly coordinated, on the second day they were both wearing reds but the SQ rolled her eyes and said I seemed to be stalker-ish so I relented from another pic!

ysolda and sarah
Now we are back in the real world, I have a large bag of yarn purchased at IKnit, plenty of ideas, a pattern to final check (Johnny Rotten Mittens no less) and get myself over to the SQ HQ for some photos on Friday. It’s also wildfennel, one of the outcasts birthday today so we’re looking forward to a cakey knit night and this Sunday is Let Me Ease Your Day with the wonderful Cor Blimey Crocheter Rockpoolcandy.
More cake will be eaten, things will be made, pictures will be taken.

mad mabel medium sock blocker
And at last the mad mabel sock blockers are here! Here’s the nitty-gritty about them:
Mad Mabel sock blockers are made from 4mm laser cut acrylic from Mad Mabel’s own design.
Mad Mabel is a collaboration between my husband(Simon) and me. The blockers are also available on my husband’s shop http://madmabel.etsy.com.
Each blocker has a handy knitting needle gauge in mm, and the largest hole at the top is perfect for hanging your blockers up. The gauge ranges in size from 2mm to 15mm.
These blockers will never warp or splinter on to your lovely handmade socks. They are in stock and will be dispatched within 48 hours of full payment being cleared. The price is for a pair of matching sock blockers, both with the gauge included. Each pair is £17.50 plus p+p.
The medium size works with UK shoe size 5-8, US 7-9(Men’s 5.5 to 7.5), Europe 37 to 41 (approx 9 inches across foot)
You can buy by clicking here to be taken directly to paypal or visit the mad mabel shop on Etsy. Skein Queen is having an update this Thursday and hopefully soon she’ll be stocking the sock blockers too along with the anarchy kits we’re working on.
See you soon

talking on the radio…
Is it just me or does everyone else feel like singing the song heard it on the radio? I know it’s an ear worm so only click if you feel like it, (I’m thinking I may need yellow sweatbands to work that look though).
But here we are, proof that Bama and I were on the Radio.

Bama with Sarah Walker, BBC Radio Berkshire and knitted microphone
If you feel even more inclined to hear Bama and I talk about knitty things, you can listen again here – apologies in advance, but you can find us from 1hr 8mins until 1hr 50 mins (don’t worry, it’s not just me!!). It won’t be there forever which will probably make people grateful but I am talking about the Outcasts.
We’ve also been knitting up our new banner for Iknit, we’re there in the knit lounge and the amazing Skeinqueen will be having her own stall no less.

gnomes
We’ve had a busy Summer, a fantastic trip to my parents, then working on art projects in Reading, preparing for the bairns changing to a *big school* and a trip to the North Lakes to visit really good friends (we lived with each other over 20 years ago, now I feel old!). My dad sent me something wonderful in the post – I had found this card and it had reminded me of the airplanes my dad had made with us when we were younger and it made me long for an easy way to visit them more often (i.e generally not involving budget airlines) so I sent it saying my wish. A few days later a paper airplane with it’s own handmade pilot arrived and my dad being the joker he is had covered the paper with anecdotes and quips playing on the word plane. That made me smile. So the gnomes are a window display I saw and made me think of him (he has a blog, casagnome)
In the Lakes, we escaped from life and had some time hanging out with sheep and seeing the new plans for the Scales Plantation ~ the landscape there takes your breath away and there are many pictures I will show you soon but here is a little one of the boys, walking.

in the forest
So time is ticking on and later today we will be heading to the new school for a visit. It is a strange feeling that I no longer have primary age children, that my children are growing up and are confident, independent, creative and hurtling towards the future. What does it mean for me? Maybe time to change my world? Or more time to do things? In the meantime I’ll carry on, working up those designs that I have in my head.

jumpers and presents

jumpers
We’re back from a break at my parents (jumpers are above in the shot). I could fill this post with just the photos I took and drawings I have done for new ideas – I am creaking at the sides with excitement.
I loved:
the sunshine,
walking on the beach with my dad,
resuming my superhero power of freckles,
facing new challenges (I won’t divulge here but believe me they were things I would never do under normal circumstances),
reading 5 whole books!,
eating pão from Fatima’s,
being with my mum,
laughing
A gratuitous second jumper shot because I love them

jumpers
Some useful phrases for Portugal:
Gosto muito tricô – I love too knit
onde está o mais próximo de lã, que é uma emergência – where is the nearest wool shop, it is an emergency
Very useful!
Now I am home and the sun seems to be still shining, although the weatherman keeps saying it’s going to rain. There was plenty of exciting post here when I got home.

a present for the outcasts for the Iknit weekender and Wemake

a magazine feature on me, Let's Get Crafting Issue 15

Mad Mabel prototype sock blocker
Now which bit of designing to start first….
